🎉 Events & Things To Do

Look Up, Northridge — The Night Sky Is Putting On a Show

If you step outside tonight in Northridge and surrounding Valley neighborhoods, you’ll be treated to a solid lineup in the sky.

Jupiter is the standout — the brightest object in the southern sky after sunset. Easy to spot with the naked eye. With binoculars, you might even glimpse its major moons.

🪐 Saturn will be visible earlier in the evening, lower in the western sky — best viewed shortly after sunset.

🌟 Depending on visibility, Venus and Mercury may also appear low near the horizon just after sundown.

And winter constellations are still adding drama overhead — look for Orion and the bright star Sirius shining nearby.

No telescope needed.
Just step outside, give your eyes a few minutes to adjust, and look up.

Clear skies, Northridge. 🌠

🎤 From CSUN to Global Stages — Serj Tankian’s Valley Roots

Before Grammy awards and international tours, Serj Tankian, frontman of System of a Down, was a student right here at California State University, Northridge.

Tankian attended CSUN in the late 1980s and graduated with a degree in Marketing. Long before leading one of rock’s most distinctive bands, he was immersed in business studies and campus life in the Valley.

In interviews, he’s credited his CSUN years with helping shape both his entrepreneurial mindset and creative independence — tools he later used to build not just a band, but an artistic platform that spans music, activism, and publishing.

World-changing creativity can start in a Valley classroom.

Strong doubles play set the tone early, and the momentum carried straight into singles.

The sweep reflects depth and consistency — and early signs that this squad is building something solid.
